PM Modi led regime hit Pak ‘where it hurt the most’: Amit Shah

Says erstwhile dispensation led by Manmohan Singh treated terrorists with ‘biryani’

Blaming erstwhile Manmohan Singh led regime backed by Mamata Banerjee’s party for failing to act firmly against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the dispensation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded decisively by launching “Operation Sindoor” after the Pahalgam terror attack and hit Pakistan “where it hurt the most.’

Speaking at a rally in Paschim Bardhaman, HM Shah, said, “Previous governments showed leniency in dealing with Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The Manmohan Singh government, supported by Mamata Banerjee’s party, never took firm action against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and instead treated them with biryani.”

Pertinently, on April 22, 2025, terrorists killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam and ‘Operation Sindoor’ was carried out to avenge it. A targeted tri-service Indian military strike carried out on May 6–7, 2025, destroyed nine terrorist camps deep inside Pakistan and PoJK.

Officials described the ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a calibrated, non-escalatory operation focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and signalling a shift in India’s counter-terrorism approach. The attack on terrorist camps led to skirmishes between the two countries that continued for four days. Hostilities ended after Pakistan Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) approached his Indian counterpart and requested for a ceasefire.

HM Shah also accused the Trinamool Congress of sheltering illegal infiltrators, saying they had been protected for long and that the BJP, after coming to power, would identify and deport them, adding that freeing the country of illegal infiltrators is the party’s mission.
