Delhi’s Special Executive Magistrate Court on Wednesday remanded Cockroach Janta Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody after they were put under preventive arrest by Delhi Police on allegations of entering Jantar Mantar on October 13, Live Law reported.
Another CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde has been released on personal bond.
For context, an FIR was registered yesterday by the Delhi Police against the three and various others on allegations of attempting to enter Jantar Mantar, a day after it was de-notified as a protest site.
The group scaled the locked gates and police barricades, holding the Indian flag and raising slogans before security forces intercepted them.
The allegations include unlawful assembly and disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant.
After they were detained yesterday morning and were taken to Jaffarpur Kalan police station, the three CJP leaders were then taken to Parliament Street Police Station during early hours of October 14.
“They’ll be produced before the SCM Court in the morning. A possibility of Judicial Custody (JC) in the Tihar Jail is possible,” CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh had tweeted, adding that the CJP leaders were not allowed to meet their lawyers till late at night.
The CJP leaders were detained earlier as well from their flight immediately after landing in Delhi to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Later, an SEM Court had ordered their release, subject to them furnishing a statutory bond saying that they will not commit breach of peace or any act that may occasion a breach of peace.
