At least 35 civilians were killed and more than 300 wounded in U.S. airstrikes across southern Iran, Iranian Health Ministry said Wednesday.
Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour said on X that women and children were among the casualties and that the provinces of Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Khuzestan were the hardest hit.
Separately, U.S. strikes hit three locations in the southwestern city of Bushehr on Wednesday morning, with no injuries reported, the province’s governor told Fars News Agency.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the strikes on Iran would continue and intensify, and warned that the U.S. would target Iranian power plants and bridges next week unless Tehran returned to the negotiating table.
The U.S. has carried out daily strikes on several Iranian cities and islands since Sunday, saying they were retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command announced Tuesday it had resumed a naval blockade on Iran.
In response, Tehran has struck U.S. military facilities in Arab countries, according to Iranian statements. Some of those countries have said the Iranian attacks caused civilian casualties and damaged civilian infrastructure.
The escalation comes despite a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict and reaching a lasting peace agreement. Iran has sent a letter to the United Nations accusing the U.S. of violating the memorandum.
