Security forces launched a search operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after suspected Pakistani drones were spotted near the border, official sources said on Friday.
Several suspected drones were seen flying along the LoC in the Rumlidhara area of the Nowshera sector around midnight on Thursday, the sources said.
Alert troops opened fire, forcing the drones to retreat towards the border, they said.
Following unconfirmed reports of possible movement by an infiltrator in the area, security forces launched a search operation in the forward areas of Nowshera on Friday, the sources said.
The operation was aimed at sanitising the area and checking for any possible infiltration attempt, they said.
Security forces and other agencies have maintained heightened surveillance along the LoC, particularly in forward areas where drone activity and infiltration attempts have previously been reported.
There was no immediate official confirmation from Pakistan regarding the reported drone sightings.
Earlier this year, suspected drone activity was reported in forward areas of Rajouri and neighbouring Samba district, prompting security forces to conduct search operations.
India and Pakistan have long accused each other of supporting cross-border militancy, and the LoC remains heavily militarised.
