A case has been registered by police in the Awantipora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following a complaint about the sexual assault of a minor, officials stated on Sunday.

Based on the complaint, Police Station Awantipora filed FIR No. 143/2026 under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and initiated a probe into the matter.

According to police, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Pulwama was notified without delay as per established protocols. A police team arranged for the child’s medical examination and carried out all required legal and procedural steps.

Officials noted that medical evidence has been gathered and preserved as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The accused has been identified by police, though further information is being withheld due to the case’s sensitive nature and to safeguard the minor’s identity.

Police stated that the investigation continues, with all facets of the case under scrutiny.

Awantipora Police reaffirmed their dedication to protecting children and urged the public to promptly report any offenses against minors at the nearest police station.
