A tragic incident unfolded in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday evening, where two young men lost their lives while engaged in cleaning a well. The mishap occurred in the Parray Nar locality of Hatmulla.
According to officials, the two individuals entered the well to carry out the cleaning work. However, shortly after commencing the operation, they collapsed and fell unconscious, with the cause suspected to be the accumulation of hazardous toxic fumes within the structure.
Emergency responders, including local Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, were immediately rushed to the site and launched swift rescue efforts. However, despite their prompt response, the duo could not be resuscitated and were later pronounced dead.
The deceased have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, and Aadil Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat. Both were permanent residents of Hatmulla Padnal.
Following the incident, the police have officially taken cognizance of the matter and initiated requisite legal proceedings.
