J&K Assembly to table report on alleged Jal Jeevan Mission irregularities

The Assembly is also scheduled to consider the introduction of a bill seeking to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, and repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is scheduled to table a report by a House Committee investigating alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Union Territory.

Justice Hasnain Masoodi, chairman of the committee, will present the report before the House, according to the Assembly’s listed business.

The committee was constituted on April 9, 2025, to probe alleged irregularities in the implementation of the central government’s flagship drinking water programme in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Assembly is also scheduled to consider the introduction of a bill seeking to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, and repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.

The proposed legislation, titled the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aims to provide transitional arrangements for self-reliant cooperatives under the 1989 Act and address related matters.

The bill will be introduced by Javid Ahmad Dar, minister in charge of cooperatives.
