India on Sunday firmly dismissed China’s move to assign new names to several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, calling the act a “mischievous attempt” that cannot change the fact that the region is an inseparable part of Indian territory.

Responding to China announcing Chinese names for a number of places in the northeastern state, New Delhi said such efforts to create “baseless narratives” hold no validity and cannot alter the ground reality.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India strongly rejects any attempt by the Chinese side to assign “fictitious names” to locations that fall within Indian territory.

“These attempts by China to introduce false claims and construct unfounded narratives cannot change the undeniable truth that these areas, including Arunachal Pradesh, were, are, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he said.

Jaiswal further noted that such actions by Beijing undermine the ongoing efforts to stabilise and normalise bilateral relations between the two countries.

He added that China should avoid steps that create unnecessary tensions and negatively impact attempts to foster better understanding between the two nations.
