Meta Platforms’ Facebook suffered a widespread outage on Sunday, leaving thousands of users across multiple countries unable to access the social media platform or use key features, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.
Reports of problems surged at around 10:39 a.m. ET (1439 GMT), with more than 3,500 users reporting issues, up from only a handful minutes earlier, Downdetector data showed.
Many users attempting to access Facebook through desktop browsers were met with the message: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”
Users also reported difficulties logging into their accounts, sending messages via Facebook Messenger, and uploading photos and videos.
According to Downdetector, 62% of reported issues were related to the website, while 21% affected mobile devices and 11% involved the Facebook app.
Reports of the disruption came from several countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Türkiye. Some users said the platform remained accessible on mobile devices while the desktop version was unavailable.
Meta had not publicly commented on the cause of the disruption at the time of writing.
