A woman died after a cloudburst triggered a flash flood in Himli area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Naseema Begum, wife of Mohd Ayub, a resident of Warnow. Police said her body was recovered following a search operation after the cloudburst caused a sudden surge of water in the area.

Officials said that damage assessment is underway and further details are awaited.

In south Kashmir, another cloudburst struck Batkoot area of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, triggering flash floods and creating panic among locals and tourists. Authorities said teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and assess the impact.

The heavy rains also disrupted connectivity. Officials said the Aishmuqam–Pahalgam road has been blocked at Langnai Bridge due to flooding. In addition, the bridge at Langnai Batkoot has suffered damage because of the strong water current.

Residents and travelers have been advised to avoid the affected areas until the situation is brought under control. (GNS)
