‘Op Sindoor’ paid dividends, but war not sustainable: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah stated on Wednesday that while “Operation Sindoor” has delivered results, wars ultimately lead only to suffering, not solutions.

“Operation Sindoor has yielded its benefits. I believe the discussion of war should end. Wars never resolve anything, they only cause devastation. Just look at the destruction in Ukraine, or the situation in the Middle East. Consider the gas supply disruption here, it will take Qatar a year or two to restore supplies,” Abdullah told reporters at the party headquarters.

Responding to a question on the Gulf crisis, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister remarked that the global economic situation is already weak, and no country is prepared for war. “There’s no need to panic. The world is not ready for war. Every nation’s economy is already fragile, and no country wants conflict. The Middle East holds most of the world’s oil and gas reserves. If pressure there continues, the global situation could become so dire that survival would be difficult,” he added.

On the recent assembly election outcomes, the NC president said he views them like anyone else. “How else would I see them? I see them as you do. The results are out. Mamata Banerjee is not accepting them—she alleges large-scale rigging. That’s the situation in Bengal. Tamil Nadu is getting a new government. Congress has won in Kerala, BJP in Assam. What more is there to say?” he asked.

When asked whether the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had any impact on the elections, Abdullah replied, “Everything had an impact.”

He also asserted that the opposition INDIA bloc is already strong and lacks nothing.

In response to a query about recent blasts in Punjab, the former Union minister said such explosions have occurred in India before and there is nothing new. “You should not panic,” he told reporters.

On the opposition’s criticism of the NC-led government in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said it is healthy that the opposition is fulfilling its role. “If they don’t, how will they survive? Let them say whatever they want. Our party is working as it should, and we will continue to do so,” he added.
