Fresh snowfall was reported on Mount Affarwat in the famous tourist resort of Gulmarg on Tuesday, while rain lashed several parts of Kashmir, bringing down temperatures across the Valley.

The fresh snowfall on the upper reaches of Gulmarg marked another spell of wintry weather in the region, while intermittent rainfall and overcast skies prevailed across several areas of the Valley.

Gulmarg experienced chilly conditions, with temperatures hovering around 10 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon, accompanied by rainfall in the lower areas of the resort.

According to the Meteorological Department, the prevailing western disturbance is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, with snowfall over higher reaches, till October 15.

The weather office also forecast thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms during the wet spell.

The department said daytime temperatures were likely to remain below normal during the period, while travellers and transporters have been advised to exercise caution along mountain passes and higher-altitude roads.

Farmers have also been advised to ensure safe storage of harvested apples, paddy and other agricultural produce in view of possible rainfall and gusty winds.

The Meteorological Department forecast generally dry weather on October 16, with a possibility of brief rainfall at isolated places, followed by predominantly dry conditions from October 17 to 24. (KNS)
