India kept their Asian Games men’s cricket crown after surviving a late Pakistan challenge to register a 19-run win in the gold-medal match on Saturday.
World T20 champions India posted 211-6 in their 20 overs on Saturday, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 61 and Tilak Varma 51 not out, before Hasan Nawaz’s valiant 96 saw Pakistan come up just short at 192-6.
After India chose to bat, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi announced his intention with back-to-back sixes in a second over from Saad Masood that cost 24 runs.
The foundation for India’s total was laid by Abhishek Sharma, who attacked from the start and made 61 off 28 balls. His innings gave India the momentum that was needed to build a 200-plus total.
As the innings were entering its final phase, Tilak Varma provided another hit. He remained unbeaten on 51 from 22 deliveries, helping India finish strongly.
