Iran and Israel carried out direct strikes against each other for the first time since a ceasefire, with Iran attacking Israeli air bases on Sunday and Israel hitting military targets inside Iran early Monday.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched attacks against Israeli air bases Nevatim and Tel Nof in response to an Israeli strike on radar sites within Iran, the Iranian FARS news agency reported. The IRGC said it was ready for any scenario and for widespread operations on all fronts, according to FARS.

Local media reported sounds of explosions in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan early Monday when Israel said it struck military targets in western and central Iran.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee confirmed Iranian missiles targeted Israel on Sunday. In a post on X, he said he heard “loud booms overhead” and was in a shelter. He also wrote, “Mothership of Satan is in Tehran.”

The renewed Israeli airstrikes on Iran followed Iranian strikes on Israel that Tehran said were retaliation for Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, Israel’s ambassador to the United States posted on social media.
