The Principal District and Sessions Court, Baramulla, on Tuesday granted bail to a teacher who was recently arrested in connection with a sexual harassment case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Official details stated that the accused was arrested in connection with FIR No. 90/2026, registered under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 9 and 10 of the POCSO Act.

The accused was represented in court by advocates Sameer Hussain Dar, Nazir Ahmad Dar and Aamir Nazir of United Law Firm, who argued that the allegations levelled against their client were not substantiated by the material collected during the investigation.

The defence counsel submitted before the court that the statements recorded during the investigation did not disclose any incriminating role on the part of the accused and contended that continued incarceration in the absence of substantive evidence was not justified.

After hearing arguments from both prosecution and defence and examining the material placed on record, the court granted bail to the accused. The defence counsel further maintained that criminal jurisprudence is based on the principle that no person can be held guilty merely on the basis of public perception or media coverage in the absence of credible incriminating material.
