Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday said they apprehended a suspected militant associate near his native village and recovered two hand grenades along with posters from his possession.

The suspect was identified as Adil Hussain Lone, son of Mohammad Sadiq Lone and a resident of Mohmadpora Kulgam.

According to police, the accused was intercepted near Mohmadpora village during an operation and explosives along with other material were allegedly recovered.

The recovery included two hand grenades and certain posters, officials said.

The arrest assumes significance as security agencies continue operations against militant networks and suspected logistical support structures in south Kashmir.

Sources said the same individual had reportedly been taken into custody earlier by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kulgam on April 29, 2026.

In connection with the incident, police registered FIR No. 88/2026 at Police Station Kulgam under Sections 13, 16 and 18-B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Sections 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act.

Officials said further investigation was underway to ascertain the intended use of the explosives and examine possible links connected to the accused.

No additional arrests or recoveries were immediately reported.

Further details were awaited. [KNT]
