National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a 535-page chargesheet against an arrested man and three Pakistani terrorists killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district in February, the agency said on Friday.
The chargesheet was filed before a special NIA court in Jammu against Maneer Ahmed, a resident of Naidgam village in Chatroo, and three killed terrorists, including Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander Saifullah, also known by several aliases, including Atiq Nazir and Atiq Ur Rehman.
The case relates to a terrorist attack on February 22 in Wani Mohalla, Passer Kote, in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the NIA, its investigation found that Ahmed had provided support to the terrorist group and was involved in harbouring and concealing terrorists accused of attacks on security forces and civilians in the district’s hilly areas.
The agency has invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, against Ahmed. It has also charged the three killed terrorists under relevant penal provisions relating to waging war against India and conspiracy, the NIA said.
The three terrorists were led by Saifullah and affiliated with Kashmir Tigers, identified by the agency as an offshoot of the proscribed JeM organisation.
All three were killed after security forces returned fire during the encounter, according to the NIA.
The agency said the group had been active in Kishtwar’s upper reaches and was linked to several attacks that resulted in the deaths of security personnel and civilians.
The investigation, which lasted nearly five months, traced the conspiracy to Pakistan, the NIA said.
Further investigation in the case is continuing.
