The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a man from Pulwama district for allegedly forging an official communication and impersonating the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
The chargesheet was filed before the court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in FIR No. 29/2026 against Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, a resident of Deeri in Pulwama, under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the EOW said in a statement.
According to the agency, the case concerns a forged letter purportedly addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Anantnag. The communication allegedly used a counterfeit official letterhead and forged signature while falsely claiming to have been issued by the Lieutenant Governor.
The forged communication was allegedly intended to influence the functioning of the Anantnag district police administration, the agency said.
The EOW said its investigation found evidence substantiating the alleged offences and the case had been marked as “proved” before the chargesheet was submitted to the court for judicial determination.
The chargesheet represents the investigating agency’s findings, while the allegations will be subject to judicial proceedings.
The agency urged the public to verify communications purportedly issued by government authorities and report suspected cases involving forged documents, official letterheads or signatures.
