The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Crime Branch Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident in a case involving an allegedly forged official communication bearing a counterfeit letterhead and forged signature of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

The chargesheet in FIR No. 29/2026 has been presented before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused has been identified as Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, resident of Deeri, Pulwama.

According to the EOW, the case concerns a communication purportedly addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, in which the sender allegedly impersonated the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The agency said the communication was prepared on a counterfeit official letterhead and carried a forged signature. It was allegedly intended to unlawfully influence the functioning of the Anantnag District Police Administration.

During the investigation, the EOW said the allegations were examined and the evidence collected was found to substantiate the commission of offences under the relevant provisions of the BNS. The investigation has consequently been concluded as “Proved”, and the chargesheet has been submitted to the court for judicial determination.

The filing means the matter will now be considered by the competent court, which will determine the case in accordance with law.

The EOW has meanwhile urged the public to remain vigilant against attempts to impersonate public authorities and the fabrication or use of forged government communications, documents, official letterheads and signatures.

It advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of any suspicious communication purportedly issued by government authorities or public officials before acting on it.

The agency also urged people to report suspected instances of impersonation or document forgery to the Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch J&K.

Complaints or information can be brought to the notice of SSP EOW Srinagar (Crime Branch J&K), Abdul Waheed Shah, or communicated through the official email address, [sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in](mailto:sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in).
