Eid al-Adha is being observed across Kashmir as thousands of worshippers gathered at mosques and Eidgahs to offer prayers commemorating the Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice.
The largest congregation took place at the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, where thousands of devotees assembled for Eid prayers. Officials said the celebrations proceeded peacefully across the region, with no reports of any untoward incidents.
Lt. Guv. Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended greetings to the Muslim community, along with leaders from various political parties.
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah offered Eid prayers in Srinagar. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, accompanied by her daughter, also prayed at the Hazratbal Shrine.
In keeping with religious tradition, thousands of sheep, goats and other animals were sacrificed across the Valley.
Large congregations were seen at Muslim places of worship throughout Kashmir, except at the historic Jamia Masjid in old Srinagar and the Eidgah, where prayers were not held after authorities denied permission to the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid to organize the gatherings.
