Security forces in Jammu carried out a series of security exercises on Saturday as part of heightened precautions and readiness checks. These included a search operation at a jail in Jammu, an anti-tunnelling exercise near the International Border in Samba, and mock drills at a railway station and a CRPF camp.
Officials said a joint search operation was conducted around 10 am at District Jail Amphalla by jail staff, the CRPF and police. The operation lasted more than an hour and no suspicious or objectionable material was found on the premises.
In Samba district, the BSF conducted an anti-tunnelling exercise in the forward area along the International Border at Border Outpost Lalfamkima in the Ramgarh sector.
The exercise was intended to detect any possible cross-border tunnels that could be used for infiltration or for smuggling arms, ammunition and other contraband into Indian territory. Officials said no such structure had been detected when the last reports were received.
Mock drills were also held at Jammu Railway Station and at a CRPF camp in the Banihal area of Ramban district to improve coordination among agencies and assess operational preparedness for emergencies.
At the railway station, the drill involved the RPF, fire and emergency services, medical staff and a bomb disposal squad. Teams from CID Special Branch and CID Counter Intelligence were also present, officials said.
