The 15-year-old girl from Rafiabad, who went missing after appearing for her Class 10 board examination, was traced safely in Srinagar district on Wednesday, officials said.

A police officer said that the girl was traced with the assistance of technical and human intelligence and efforts had been underway to establish her whereabouts following her disappearance on October 19.

He said the girl, identified as Uzma Irshad, a resident of Laiser village in Rafiabad went missing after appearing for her examination at Government Higher Secondary School, Dangiwacha. “According to her family, the girl left the examination centre and reached Watergam village, after which her whereabouts became unknown,” he said.

The officer said her disappearance prompted the family to appeal to the public for assistance. The matter also drew attention on social media, with people sharing her photographs to help trace her.

On Wednesday morning, following her safe recovery, the family appealed to social media users to delete her photographs and refrain from sharing them further, urging them to respect the minor’s privacy. The family also expressed gratitude to the public, well-wishers and everyone who extended support during the search. (KNO)
