Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, has placed two police personnel, including the Incharge Border Police Post (BPP) Chakrohi, under suspension, while three Special Police Officers (SPOs) have been attached following the custodial death of a 32-year-old man at the Police Post, which sparked intense protests on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Uttam Chand of Rakh village, was allegedly picked up from his house around 8 pm on Tuesday following a complaint by a neighbor over a family dispute.
Locals alleged that Chand was beaten inside the police post overnight and was denied family visits.
In response to the incident, the SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, has placed PSI Vikram Choudhary, Incharge Border Police Post Chakroi and Constable Rinku Kumar, under immediate suspension pending inquest proceedings.
Both suspended personnel have been ordered to report to District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu and deposit their uniform articles, while remaining entitled to subsistence allowances.
