Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Thursday that both his administration and the National Conference (NC) will persist in their push for the return of statehood, vowing to keep up the fight until they succeed.
When asked by reporters whether the government planned to escalate its actions in the wake of widespread protests across the Union Territory on Wednesday, where crowds rallied for the same demand—Abdullah responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes. We will not stop our endeavours until statehood is restored.”
The Chief Minister delivered these remarks during a media interaction following his assessment of the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in Rajouri district, which has been impacted by flooding.
This latest statement comes just over a week after Omar Abdullah and NC president Farooq Abdullah spearheaded a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20, where they called for the reinstatement of statehood and the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees for the region.
The former state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019, following the revocation of Article 370. The National Conference has repeatedly underscored that securing full statehood remains a cornerstone of its political agenda and a pledge it intends to honour.
