Two dead after drowning in power canal in Ganderbal

Two bodies, including that of a 19-year-old girl and a 39-year-old man, were recovered from a power canal in Gund, Ganderbal on Monday, officials said.

Officials said that the girl has been identified as Sabreena Bano, 19, daughter of Fazal Rehman Khan, resident of Ramwari Gund. Her body was retrieved from the canal near the drowning spot and taken to PHC Gund for medico-legal formalities.

In a continuation of the rescue operation, the body of a male was later recovered near Fraw Dam. He has been identified as Adil Ahmad Tantray, 39, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Gund.

Police Station Gund has initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, BNSS. Both bodies were shifted to SDH Kangan for further medico-legal formalities and investigation.

Officials said the search operation was launched after the drowning incident was reported in the power canal at Gund. Further details are awaited. (GNS)
